Fungal Infection

Infections of the skin and nails

Fungal Infection

These fungi often live harmlessly on your skin, but they can sometimes multiply and lead to infections. The fungi are opportunists, preferring warm, dark and moist places like feet and tend to attack damaged nails and skin as they are easier to invade.

Common reasons: Dermatophytes cause most fungal nail infections. Less often an infection is due to other types of fungi, usually yeasts eg. Candida and moulds.

There are a few different treatment options for fungal infections, the treatment which
may be best suited to you is dependent on the severity of the infection and a number
of factors following the assessment.

How we help with fungal infections

Eden podiatry clinic takes a great deal of care to ensure all the surfaces and instruments are free of any contaminants like fungal spores. All instruments are first washed in a sonic cleaner then
sterilized to a 132 degrees in an autoclave. Initially you need a diagnosis any nail or ski condition as not all damaged and stained skin/ nails are due to a fungal infection.

There are several treatment options some oral and others topical and on discussion we would look to advise which has the best benefit and risk option for you. Also we would advise on preventative measures to ensure you limit the spread of the infection and prevent a re- occurrence..
